I have been a Wikipedia enthusiast since being introduced to the phenomenon in 2002 by usability expert Mark Hurst, founder of Creative Good and the GEL Conference. Thanks, Mark!

I am best known as the founder of Medscape in 1995. Although I have no affiliation with the current owners of Medscape, WebMD, I continue to write for the site, and contribute articles and video editorials. In 2005 I wrote a history of the site.

I live on the wonderful island of Manhattan, in the world's greatest city, New York. I enjoy life here with Katharine Rice, my best friend and companion since 1972, and two furry felines, Charly and Chelsea.

Professionally, I work as a medical information consultant, but also spend considerable time helping start-up entrepreneurs and nonprofit organizations, including The Alumni & Friends of Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, nycwireless, a community wireless organization, Transportation Alternatives, a pedestrian and cyclists advocacy group, The Omnimedix Institute, and The Healthcare Marketing and Communications Council, a group working to enhance professionalism and education in the medical communications and marketing industries. Two start-ups that I am involved in with are Crossix Solutions and Peerstone Research.

I am intrigued by the potential of a Wikipedia-like platform for location-based wireless content. If portable devices can know where you are, why can't we access information about our location, and edit/contribute to it, just as we do with Wikipedia? In the future, perhaps such nomadic content will be accessed and edited as frequently as Wikipedia is today. A new venture I am experimenting with to try out ideas in this area is WiTour.com.

I'm interested in the social impact of computing, and empowering individuals through the Internet. Wikipedia does that. I think it's the most important thing to happen on the Internet since the Web itself. I support it financially, and as a user. And I hope everyone who reads this page does the same.
