Petitioning the Empty Sky is the second full length release by Massachusetts band Converge. It was their first CD to be released by Equal Vision Records. The CD was re-released in a remastered format and with new artwork and live tracks recorded for radio in 2005.

A notable moment on one of the live tracks on the re-released version is when one of the band members hits their head on a microphone stand.
