Peterlingen Priory

Peterlingen Abbey or Priory was a Cluniac monastery at Peterlingen, now Payerne, in Lausanne, Switzerland.

It was founded in the 10th century by Queen Bertha of Burgundy and was a very early priory of the Abbey of Cluny, from 962.

The reforming Cluniac, Saint Ulrich of Zell, was prior here in the later 11th century. In the 14th century it began a long decline, which could not be reversed even when it was raised to the status of an abbey by the antipope Felix V.

During the Reformation the abbey was dissolved. Some of the buildings were demolished, the remainder put to various secular uses: a bell foundry in the 17th century, a grain store in the 18th and later as a prison and barracks.
