Peter Puck

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Peter Puck was the name of a hockey puck shaped cartoon character. The puck, whose cartoon adventures appeared on both NBC's Hockey Game of the Week and CBC's Hockey Night in Canada during the 1970s, explained hockey rules to the home viewing audience. The voice of Peter Puck was provided by veteran actor Ronnie Schell; the animation was performed by Hanna-Barbera studios. Nine episodes, each approximately three minutes long, were broadcast during periods of NHL hockey games.

Brian McFarlane, a 1970s member of the NHL broadcasts in both Canada and the United States, is the creator of Peter Puck, and a son of Leslie McFarlane, also known as author Franklin W. Dixon of Hardy Boys fame. It has been reported that Peter Puck could be returning to hockey broadcasts in the near future[citation needed].

The former owner of the Edmonton Oilers, Peter Pocklington, was sometimes nicknamed "Peter Puck."
