Peter Levy, (born September 5, 1955), Farnborough, is a British television and radio presenter, currently host of the BBC regional news programme Look North, broadcast from Hull to East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. He originates from the South West, and came to Yorkshire in his late teens.

[edit] Career Highlights

Although wanting to become an airline pilot when younger (and still enjoys flying), he was a disc jockey at Bradford's Pennine Radio (now The Pulse of West Yorkshire) from its launch in 1975 - having been hired by Austin Mitchell. He had been an actor in his teenage years. Peter once worked at the same station as James Whale who is the current late night talk host on the national commercial station talkSPORT. He latterly moved to Leeds-based Radio Aire and then moved to the BBC in January 1987, eventually having a lunchtime show at BBC Radio Leeds. At this time he started as a regular stand-in presenter for the Leeds edition of Look North (at that point it was broadcast across the whole Yorkshire and Lincolnshire region).

When the BBC split the region into two, Peter moved to present the Hull edition full-time.

Despite Peter's camp manner, famous ex-partners include Malandra Burrows (Emmerdale) & Countdown's Carol Vorderman. He also had a girlfriend that still works on Look North: Jenny Hill. Peter was once caught in the sexy underwear shop Ann Summers with his ex, Jenny Hill. Paul Hudson, the Look North weatherman, always takes the micky on Peter's sexuality. He says things like pinks your colour and what was a picture of you doing up in the gents toilets.

[edit] Look North

Peter's on-screen rapport with weatherman colleague Paul Hudson has made him a popular local figure. The duo visited shopping centres around the region and met the public as part of the 2006 Look North Sofa Tour.

A popular feature on the programme is Leave it to Levy. This is the viewers' chance to get Peter 'on the case'. Viewers are asked to write in with problems they think Peter should help them with or solve. Previous problems have included school crossing patrols and helping a local music group. The music group subsequently dedicated a tune to Peter. Peter also writes a daily letter posted on the Look North web site called the Levy Letter, where people can sign up and receive one daily. The letter talks about Peter's day - for example where he's been and what he's done. Peter lives on his own in a flat along Hull Quayside. He is often found out shopping on his own around Hull and Lincoln talking to local people.

On the programme he has interviewed a wide range of people including Ann Widdecombe, Lord Coe and Shaun Williamson (Barry from EastEnders).

He is appearing at the Hull Truck Theatre in November 2006 for an Audience with Peter Levy with his sarcastic friend, Paul.

During an interview in 2004, he famously commented that he thought Scunthorpe United football manager Brian Laws was a 'spitting image' of Pop Idol judge Simon Cowell. Laws was clearly irritated.
