Peter Furler

Peter Andrew Furler was born in South Australia on September 8, 1966. He has five siblings, named Debbie, Vicki, Mark, Julie, and David. He frequently drove them crazy by banging on anything he could find, such as the back seat of the car or his lap. As a teenager, he was able to listen to the radio, hear the first chord of a song, and instantly know which song it was.
Peter became a Christian at the age of 17. In 1986, he founded the band Newsboys with George Perdikis. He was originally the band's drummer, rapper, and background vocalist but eventually became the lead vocalist and one of the guitarists. (He was also the auto mechanic for the "Refrigerator," the Newsboys' first touring bus.) His first concert was at his sister Julie's sixteenth birthday.
He has written most of the Newsboys' songs. The Newsboys frequently collaborate with Steve Taylor, so there are many times where Steve writes the songs and Peter comes up with the music.
Peter is usually nervous before every show. Back when he played the drums, he played on a rotating drum kit and got dizzy every time. Once, he got stuck under the kit and had to be cut down by the crew, while the band and the front row audience was sprayed by hydraulic fluid.
He used to be in rival bands with fellow Newsboy Duncan Phillips back when he lived in Australia.
If Peter was not a Newsboy, he says he would be a fireman.
