[edit] Career

Pete first came to California in October 1997 and met Rick Bassman in 1998, where he was instrumental in helping create UPW (Ultimate Pro Wrestling). Starting out as ring announcer, Pete eventually turned over to play-by-play announcing and assisting the creative team. In 2001, Pete joined the WWE Creative Team.

Being a part of the WWE Creative Team was overwhelming for Doyle as he had a lot going on his personal life, with his mother just passing away and this was bad timing for being on the road. Pete was co-writer and eventually sole writer of Sunday Night Heat and part of the team that writes RAW, Smackdown! and monthly PPV's. In September 2001, while grounded in Houston due to 9/11, Doyle requested from Stephanie McMahon his release from WWE and his release was granted.

Moving back to California, Pete had a falling out with UPW. Doyle then attempted to start up his own wrestling promotion, but all interested investors eventually declined. Doyle took some time away and made some attitude changes before mending bridges with Rick Bassman and going back to UPW.

Pete then took the role as 'Manager' in UPW, managing such talents as Sean O'Haire, Chuck Palumbo & Daniel Puder. Most recently, Doyle formed 'The Westies', a group of Irish American rogues with no respect for the authority of UPW. The group currently consists of James Prentice, Tommy Wilson and 'The Real Heavyweight Champ of the Woooooorld' Brian Fleming.

Pete also appears from time to time on Wrestling Weekly [2]as an analyst.

Other notable moments from Pete's career are managing Greg 'The Hammer' Valentine for one night in Oxnard, CA and appearing in a cheesy skit on Sunday Night Heat with Trish Stratus.

[edit] WWE Tenure

Doyle signed with WWE in February 2001 as part of the Creative Team. During his time at WWE, Doyle was part of the writing team for all major WWE TV telecasts and PPV's.

[edit] Doyle vs. Bassman

Pete and Rick Bassman's relationship goes all the way back to 1998 when Pete was first hired as the UPW ring announcer. Over time, both formed a strong business relationship. Pete left for WWE and kept in contact with Bassman, but Doyle's attitude was changing. Once Doyle came back to California, the two had a falling out and did not speak for over a year. After Pete had made some personal changes, he got in contact with Rick and the two resolved all issues. However, over the past year, the differences between them had become public knowledge. Pete resurfaced in UPW as Commissioner and seemed to be level headed and back on terms with Bassman. But, like before, Doyle crossed Bassman at a UPW show at The Grove in Anaheim, California. Doyle turned on Chris Mordetzky (WWE's Chris Masters)and helped Adam Pearce become UPW Champion. After the match, an irate Bassman charged Doyle in the ring, but was cut off by about a dozen wrestlers. This set up a very heated feud between the two, culminating in a match at UPW's fifth anniversary show, again, at The Grove in Anaheim. The match was for full power of UPW, meaning Doyle's long term contract as Commissioner would be voided if he lost.

Bassman, who trained accordingly for the match, was adamant on taking back his company. During the match, Doyle tried to back out and headed back to the dressing room, only to be met by UPW play-by-play announcer Todd Keneley, who was threatened to be fired by Doyle if Doyle won. Keneley smacked Doyle in the head with an unopened can of soda, which exploded on impact, allowing Bassman time to come get Doyle. However, instead of Bassman dragging Doyle back to the ring, the two tussled and came off the entrance ramp and down to the floor through a table. Once the two finally managed to get back to the ring, Bassman took the upper hand and finally got the win. If that wasn't humiliating enough, Vince McMahon, Chairman of WWE and close friend of UPW, appeared on the big screen and gave Doyle his infamous message, "You're Fired".

After a few months, Doyle's attorneys noticed a loop hole stating that while he may no longer be able to act as Commissioner, he can perform as a manager. In realizing this, Pete met with Sean O'Haire and brought him to UPW to try and de-throne Sean's former friend and current UPW Champion, Tom Howard. With Bassman at Howard's side and Doyle at O'Haire's, O'Haire failed in his conquest to take the UPW title away from Howard.

Recently, Doyle has formed 'The Westies' consisting of James Prentice and Tommy Wilson, who are gunning for the UPW tag titles and also Brian Fleming, whom Doyle unofficially crowned UPW Champion with the original UPW title from 1998.

[edit] Personal life

Pete has two sons, Andrew Peter Doyle, from his first marriage. Drew appeared on his first UPW show when he was just 2 weeks old. Pete remarried on June 23, 2005 to Jessica Jeanette Benson, who gave birth to another son, Cullen Thomas Doyle on June 11, 2005. The family currently resides in Brea, California. Pete's father and two sisters still live in Dublin, Ireland. Pete's mother died in 2001.
