Pete Cawthon

Pete Cawthon(1898-1968) was the head coach of Texas Tech from 1930-1940. During his tenure, he compiled a record of 76-32-6. In 1917, he attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. He lettered in baseball, football, and basketball during his three years there. He took his first coaching job at Beaumont High School. In 1920, he became the baseball and basketball coach at Rice University.
In 1921, he coached at Terrell Prep School in Dallas. He also established the annual Cawthon Trophy, awarded to athletes based on their participation.
