Petäjävesi

Petäjävesi is a municipality of Finland.
It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Central Finland region. The municipality has a population of 3,691 (2003) and covers an area of 495.55 km² of which 37.59 km² is water. The population density is 8.1 inhabitants per km².
The municipality is unilingually Finnish.
The wooden church of Petäjävesi was inscribed in 1994 on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It was built between 1763 and 1765. UNESCO considered it to be a representative Lutheran church of the Scandinavian tradition, mixing Renaissance with older Gothic elements.
The Karikkoselkä impact crater is located southeast of the municipal centre.
