The name Perth derives from a Pictish word for wood or copse. Perth, Scotland is the administrative town of the region of Perth and Kinross. A number of other cities and towns around the world have been named after this Perth, the largest of which is Perth, Western Australia, the capital of Western Australia and the fourth-largest city in Australia. Political divisions, sporting teams and naval ships have also been named 'Perth' after these towns and cities.
