Personal Web Server

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A personal web server is an appliance that allows users to store and access private files remotely from any device connected to the web. It is also a web server program by Microsoft known as PWS.

Francine Brevetti, Business Writer with the Oakland Tribune published an article that identified new devices that will store and share personal information for consumers. Hard drive manufacturer, Seagate Technology is identified as one of the first companies to offer consumers such a product. Dubbed the Maxtor Fusion Personal Web Server, it lets users organize, share, link, and access digital files of all kinds.

Personal Web Server (PWS) is a web server program for PC users who want to share web pages and other files from their hard drive. PWS is a scaled-down version of Microsoft's more robust web server, Internet Information Services (IIS). PWS can be used with a full-time Internet connection to serve web pages for a web site with limited traffic. It can also be used for testing a web site offline or from a "staging" site before putting it on a main web site that is exposed to more traffic.
