The Personal Health Information Protection Act, known by its acronym PHIPA (loosely pronounced 'fippa' or 'puh-hip-ah'), ia a legislation that outlines privacy regulations for provincial health care information in Ontario, Canada. PHIPA is intended to complement the Canadian federal privacy legislation, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. These acts restricts the public collection and use of private personal information, including materials pertaining to one's health care. Breeches of these provincial laws are directed to the Ontario Information and Privacy Commissioner.
