Persil

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

For the music group, see Persil (band).

Persil is a brand of laundry detergent made by Henkel in some countries (including Germany and the Netherlands) and by Unilever, since acquiring rights to the brand in 1919, in others. In the UK, Unilever makes Persil in both biological and non-biological forms.

The name is derived from two of its original ingredients, perborate and silicate, but the name is deemed unsuitable as an international brand, being for example hard to pronounce in Hindi and meaning "Parsley" in French. Persil is heavily advertised on UK commercial television.
