Perrin Air Force Base
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Perrin Air Force Base was an Air Force Base located in rural Grayson County, Texas approximately seven miles west of Denison.
Selected as the location for a training base in early 1941, construction was underway when World War II broke out. The first group of pilots graduated in February of 1942. Throughout its life, Perrin graduates transitioned from propeller planes to jets and saw action in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.
Partially due to increased air traffic in the area (translated: the future opening of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport), Perrin closed in 1971. The facility later became Grayson County Airport.
Today, several businesses operate on the property and there is a small museum dedicated to the Air Force Base. Grayson County College uses several of the buildings for its course offerings, and also operates the golf course which was part of the base.
