[edit] Business

Perkins Twp. houses numerous large, commercialized and tourist-related businesses, due, in large part, to the nearby Cedar Point Amusement Park. With an increase in tourism, several prominent companies have also recently built large indoor/outdoor waterpark facilities, bolstering the area's vital tourism industry. In addition, the Sandusky Mall and Sandusky Speedway lie in Perkins Township.

Aside from the Mall District, the chief employer in Perkins is the township's Delphi Corporation plant. On March 31, 2006, Delphi announced that the plant in Perkins would be one of 21 it would close in the United States following the company's filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October 2005. Although the Perkins plant remains open, its future is uncertain, as are those of the approximately 1,100 employed there.

[edit] Sports & Recreation

The Perkins Local School District mascot is Pirates. They play in the Sandusky Bay Conference and their chief rivals are the Panthers of Sandusky St. Mary Central Catholic [1], the Tigers of Huron, the Polar Bears of Margaretta.[2] The Perkins Pirates won the Division IV Ohio state football championship in 1999, with a 15-0 record.

The Perkins High School Marching Band, which generally numbers between 150-200 members, plays at all PHS football games, and competes every year in OMEA marching band competitions. Notably, it has participated in the state competition every year since the competition's inception in 1980. The PHS Marching Band is widely known for its exceptional record at these competitions, being one of a very small number of bands that have qualified to perform at the state competition every year since 1980.
