The People's Movement of Ukraine (Ukrainian: Народний Рух України, Narodnyi Rukh Ukrajiny) is a right-wing nationalistic political party in Ukraine.
The Movement was founded in 1989, this was made possible due to Mikhail Gorbachev's Glasnost policy. The organization takes its roots in Ukrainian dissidents, most notable of them — Vyacheslav Chornovil. People's Movement of Ukraine was instrumental in conducting an independence referendum in Ukraine. The Movement gathers most of its voters and supporter from western Ukraine. Western Ukraine, which is a substantially less industrialized than eastern Ukraine, and where more population lives in rural areas, tends to be more nationalistic than the rest of the country.
At the parliamentary elections on 29 March 1998, the party received 9% of the vote and 46 seats.
At the parliamentary elections on 30 March 2002, the party was part of the Viktor Yushchenko Bloc Our Ukraine. Currently, Rukh is a part of People's Union Our Ukraine (formerly called Viktor Yushchenko Bloc Our Ukraine), where it represents the right wing of Union's party spectrum. The party should not be confused with similarly named Ukrainian People's Movement, which is leaded by Yury Kostenko.
At the parliamentary elections on 26 March 2006, the party was part of the Our Ukraine alliance, and the party's members secured 13 seats in the parliament.
Borys Tarasyuk is the leader of the party. As of 2006 he is the Minister of External Affairs of Ukraine.
