The Penobscot Theatre Company is a professional company based in Bangor, Maine. Founded in 1973 as the Acadia Repertory Theatre, PTC became a separate entity in 1983. One of its seasons typically consists of half a dozen productions, including A Christmas Carol.
For seven years, it sponsored the Maine Shakespeare Festival, a series of open-air performances on the bank of the Penobscot River. It continues to sponsor summer theatre workshops.
PTC's educational and outreach programming is the largest in the state, serving thousands of Maine students each year.
In 1997, PTC purchased and renovated the Bangor Opera House, the last theater remaining in Downtown Bangor.
