Penny Ayala is a minor character in the Sweet Valley High book series.

Penny, a senior at Sweet Valley High, was editor in chief of The Oracle, the school newspaper. Her freshman sister, Tina, was a photographer for the paper. Penny was close to Elizabeth, the only one to whom she confided her dream of being editor of an international newspapaer.

When The Oracle trialed a personals section, Penny placed a joke ad which was answered by Neil Freemount. Although it was initially part of a joke thought up by Kirk Anderson, Neil developed feelings for Penny and though she was hurt to discover the joke, they eventually started seeing each other.
