Pennsylvania Route 462 is a 32 mile long east-west running local route in central Pennsylvania. The western terminus is west of York. The eastern terminus is east of Lancaster. At both ends, PA 462 terminates at U.S. Route 30.

The western terminus of PA 462, is at an interchange with U.S. Route 30 near West York. In York, PA 462 divides and merges with PA 74 for about 2 miles. Both PA 72 and PA 462 head into downtown York and meet with I-83 Business in Central York as George Street. In East York, PA 462 intersects I-83 at exit 19. About a east of East York, PA 462 meets with PA 24. In Wrightsville, PA 462 has a "Y" intersection with PA 624's northern terminus, where PA Route 624 will pass under PA Route 462. East of PA 624, PA Route 462 will cross the Susquehanna River on the Columbia-Wrightsville Bridge.

In Columbia it meets with Pennsylvania Route 441. West of Lancaster, it meets with PA 741. In the city of Lancaster, PA 462 will divide into two streets: King and Walnut Streets and will also merge with PA 23 for about 2 or 3 miles. West of the downtown area of Lancaster, the eastbound of PA 23 and PA 462 only; will meet with PA 999. In the downtown area of Lancaster the routes become a problem for visiting motorist who become confused. US 222 and PA 272 meet PA 462 in downtown Lancaster. East of the downtown area, is the eastern terminus of the PA 23/ PA 462 duplex. East of Lancaster, PA 462 meets with PA 340, which is called the Old Philadelphia Pike. In East Lampeter Township, PA 462 ends at an interchange with U.S. Route 30 a few miles east of Lancaster.
