Pennrose Mall

Pennrose Mall is a shopping center located in Reidsville, North Carolina.
Pennrose Mall opened in the late 1960's and introduced the enclosed mall to Rockingham County. Original anchors included Belk, Roses, Eckerd and J.C. Penney
The mall, with its distinctive double-height shopping corridor, dominated local retail until the opening of larger and more sophisticated retail facilities nearby in the 1970s and 1980s. The downturn of the local textile, furniture and tobacco industries also complicated matters for the mall, reducing Reidsville's population and buying power.
In the 1990s, the struggling mall lost its J.C. Penney and Eckerd stores, along with a number of smaller retailers, and fell into disreapair. The mall was also sold to different owners at least twice in a five year period, according to local newspaper accounts.
Though overshadowed by competition and local economic woes, Pennrose Mall is still open and operating with a handful of stores, including Belk, Roses and a number of local and regional tenants.
