Penis game
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The penis game is a chicken-like game meant to be played in a public place. A number of participants take turns saying "penis"—or another publicly awkward word; vagina is another common choice—at increasingly loud levels, starting from a whisper, and possibly ending with shouts. Each player must be noticeably louder than the last, but what qualifies as noticeable is only subjectively measured. The game generally ends when one person either declines to say "penis", says it at an inadequate volume, exhibits embarrassment related to others' taking notice, or gets into trouble if at a school or classroom setting.
In American culture, to say or yell the word "penis" in public is generally considered taboo, contributing to the choice of this word for the game. Depending on the situation, one may yell words other than simply "penis." The word "cocksucker" is especially popular because of its three-syllable length and the loud nature of the /k/ sound at the separation point between each syllable. Other U.S. variations include the shouting of "NAMBLA," "I've got a bomb," "Dugger", "Swallow," and "cunt". In Great Britain, the game is usually played as bollocks (slang for testicles), penis not being sufficiently offensive. Among younger British children, the game is played with the word "bogeys" (a slang term for nasal mucus, also spelt "bogies"). This variant is played by the hosts of a children's television show in the United Kingdom, Dick and Dom in da Bungalow. Another variant is reported among British soldiers stationed in Germany, where the word Gestapo serves as the offending item. In Australia the game is often played in a classroom or assembly where many people can hear it, although any obscenity is likely to be substituted for the word penis. It is often won by the person who is not sent home after a day of the game.
An unrelated penis game is a variation on The Minister's Cat, in which participants simply state "My penis is ___", where a word starting with a particular letter is supplied. This version originated on TinyTim Mush circa 1994.
