Penfold is a fictional character from DangerMouse, the British animated television series by Cosgrove Hall Films, voiced by Terry Scott. The anthropomorphic hamster is DangerMouse's loyal comic sidekick and is usually by his side. Penfold stands just over half the height of DangerMouse, and always wears thick round glasses and a blue suit with a yellow and black stripey tie. He is very timid, rather clumsy and often scared, saying his trademark "Crumbs!" when things go wrong; DangerMouse frequently tells him; "Penfold Shush!". He appears in every episode and often needs rescuing from one situation or another by Dangermouse.
At times Penfold and Dangermouse are shown to be rodent size such as them both living beneath a pillar box, and meeting other animals like birds that are giant in size compared to them. But at other times they interact with people and are human size; like the episode "Trip to America", seen in the picture below.
[edit] Trivia
- Although he is a hamster many believe he is a mole, possibly because of his brown color and the fact he wears thick glasses, (moles having poor eye sight.)
- Once he won third place in a Penfold look-a-like contest.
- His full name is revealed only once, it is "Ernest Penfold".
- In one episode, it is mentioned that his codename is "Jigsaw" because he often "goes to pieces".
