Pender is a village in Thurston County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 1,148 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Thurston CountyGR6.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.7 km² (0.6 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 1,148 people, 489 households, and 310 families residing in the village. The population density was 692.6/km² (1,801.9/mi²). There were 542 housing units at an average density of 327.0/km² (850.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 98.34% White, 0.09% African American, 0.78% Native American, 0.26% from other races, and 0.52% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.78% of the population.

There were 489 households out of which 26.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.8% were married couples living together, 6.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.6% were non-families. 35.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.22 and the average family size was 2.84.

In the village the population was spread out with 21.5% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 21.3% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 29.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females there were 97.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.1 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $30,990, and the median income for a family was $38,333. Males had a median income of $26,008 versus $19,792 for females. The per capita income for the village was $17,672. About 3.9% of families and 6.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.5% of those under age 18 and 7.8% of those age 65 or over.
