Peltorhamphus tenuis is a righteye flounder of the family Pleuronectidae, found only around New Zealand in shallow enclosed waters such as estuaries, harbours, mudflats, and sandflats, in waters less than 100 m in depth.
Peltorhamphus tenuis is very similar to the New Zealand sole, Peltorhamphus novaezeelandiaea, and only varies in being smaller and having more vertebrae than the New Zealand sole.
