From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pelpin is a town in Poland. It lies on the Wierzyca River. It is a stop on most tourism routes, to see the monastery and the Gutenberg Bible.
[edit] History
There is a Cistercian monastery in the Gothic style, and also a Gothic parish church.
Pelpin Cathedral dates from the early 13th century.
Dating from the 11th century, the town was occupied by the Prussians from 1824. From that same year it was the seat of the nationalist movement in Poland.
The town's Biblioteka Seminarium houses a Gutenberg Bible and the Pelpin Tabulature (a rare 17th century organ music score book).
During the Second World War, the entire chapter of Pelpin Cathedral was massacred by the SS.
