Peccati Syn

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Grand Admiral Peccati Syn was Star Wars Expanded Universe character, a Grand Admiral of the Imperial Starfleet. He was one of the original 12 Grand Admirals, raised to that newly-created rank by the Emperor after the Battle of Yavin.

Syn was born into a family deeply religious, and devout followers of The Sacred Way; then the Empire came, and the Sacred Way was forbidden. To fill its place, Syn became deeply loyal to the New Order. He rose through the ranks on the strength of his devotion and talents, until he was Grand Admiral, at which time he devoted his efforts to battling the Rebel Alliance. But with the death of the Emperor at the Battle of Endor, Syn's faith in the New Order was no longer tenable, and he began searching for yet another replacement. Shortly thereafter, Ysanne Isard plotted with the (false) Prophets of the Dark Side to set up a Church of the Dark Side, which Syn fervently embraced, going so far to make Prophetess Merilli part of his personal staff. While Syn claimed to be a loyalist, under Sate Pestage, he truly took orders from the Church.

Syn was killed approximately six months after the Battle of Endor while battling Admiral Ackbar in the Mid-Rim sector of Sumitra near the Kashyyyk system; the Star Wars Insider issue mentions that accounts vary as to whether Ackbar was simply a better strategist than Syn, or whether Ackbar's numeric superiority was key in his victory.

Though never published and thus not canonical, Star Wars Insider author Daniel Wallace indicates that Syn's personal Star Destroyer was named Fi (High Galactic for "Son"), but later renamed to Silooth (a name for a Sith predator). See here. Interestingly, Wallace revealed further unpublished data in "Grand Admirals: What Have They Got in their Pocketsses?" to the effect that Syn always carried around a Sacred Way charm. [1]
