[edit] Normally
Normally when you get this message: You have new messages (last change). It means you have a new message in you're talk. I clicked it and it brought me to pratical joke. Why? Peach12 Talk [Contributions] [Email me] 19:55, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
Check my talk page out... It is more of a pratical joke on wikipedia. Just ignore it and laugh :) Eagle talk 20:03, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- Oh and I modified your page... you had it all to the right about an inch wide... If you need help with formatting drop me a note on my talk page :) Eagle talk 20:06, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] test 2
No worries, I assumed it was a mistake. Best, Gwernol 20:04, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] but
But still, Eagle How did u get the pratical joke thing to pop up on my window as a new message? I want to do that to other wikipedians. Please respond on my talk
Peach12 Talk [Contributions] [Email me] 20:09, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- (edit conflict 2 times)While you were posting this, I saw your message on my talk page... you have to give more than 5 minutes for someone to respond. This is not msn chat or yahoo chat. If you post on a page where someone is trying to type, and they save after you save, you give them an edit conflict. Very annoying to the other person. :)Eagle talk 20:18, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] My fake message
Normally if you see something you like on someone else's page... Just click "edit this page" and look at the wiki-syntax to see how they did it.
Here is mine... It changes the word "new" to old, and redirects you to your talk page. If you read the message before clicking, you don't fall for it... if you don't then you get to feel really dumb, great for laughs. (I have had people give me good comments on this...)
Also If you look at the code you will see this... {{CURRENTDAY}} {{CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{CURRENTYEAR}}: {{CURRENTTIME}}:{{CURRENTSECOND}} , If you copy paste and save it will always put the current server time. Try it out :)
Cheers Eagle talk 20:12, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
But the pratical joke one pops up on whatever page you are on such as the REAL one. How do u do that, Eagle?
- Give me 2 minutes... I need time to respond. (note for now on leave me a message on my talk page :) I will respond, just give me some time... Eagle talk 20:20, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
Ok, my template takes you to YOUR talk page. Go to my page and click the message. :) Eagle talk 20:22, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Ok let me tell you a few things
<div class="usermessage"><div class="plainlinks">'''You have [[Special:Mytalk|<span style="color: #002bb8">old messages</span>]] ([http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Mytalk?diff=last <span style="color: #002bb8">last change</span>]). {{CURRENTDAY}} {{CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{CURRENTYEAR}}: {{CURRENTTIME}}:{{CURRENTSECOND}}</div></div>
Above is the full code, as you copied and pasted.
This part: sets the style and color of the box, leave it alone.
<div class="usermessage"><div class="plainlinks">
This part: normal wikitext, Special:Mytalk can be changed to any location in wikipedia, same as you would do if you wikified an article. After the "|" symbol there is <span style="color: put color here..."><nowiki> text you want to show </span>
'''You have [[Special:Mytalk|<span style="color: #002bb8">old messages</span>]]</nowki>
Hope this helps... Eagle talk 20:34, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Your sig
Hi Michaela, I see you are a fairly new editor. Your current signature uses full external-style links for your Contributions and to email you. I would suggest you change these to their proper internal wikilinks:
[[Special:Contributions/Peach12|Contributions]] and
[[Special:Emailuser/Peach12|Email]].
