Peace Boulevard (Hiroshima)

Peace Boulevard (平和大通り Heiwa Odori?) is a is one of the main streets in Hiroshima, Japan, which is faced to the south side of Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park.
The street is 100 meters wide and runs 3.6 km from east to west, between Tsurumi-cho and Fukushima-cho with the green belt.
There are 5 bridges to connect the street including west and east Peace Bridges by Isamu Noguchi.
The west end bridge connect to "Nishi Hiroshima Station" and the east end bridge connect to "Hijiyama Park"

- The construction was started in 1945, the end of the year World War II, to create the buffer zone to protect the spread of the fire, by the citizens and students.
- On the 6th of August in 1945, tens of thousands of the citizens and students dead by a-bomb. (Still, they can't find out the exactly numbers of the victims.)
- The plan to build and rebuild Peace Boulevard, Hiroshima Castle, Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Hiroshima Chūō Park by the Hiroshima Peace Memorial City Construction Law in 1948.
- In the mid-1950s, they had the tree-planting campaign, and 120,000 trees were donated from all over Hiroshima Prefecture, and more trees and plants were presented from all over Japan and all over the world with the heart of the Peace.
- Now, Peace Boulevard and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park are the place of recreation and relaxation for the citizens.
- And Peace Boulevard is used for some events(festivals, concerts and ekiden races).
