In some countries esp. India, the word Paying Guest is used as an euphemism for a lodger

Paying Guest is a 1957 Hindi movie directed by Subodh Mukherjee. The film stars Dev Anand and Nutan along with Shobha Khote. The music is by Sachin Dev Burman and the lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri. The films music was very popular. Almost all the songs were hits and are still remembered.
