- The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of a fair use image as a replaceable image. Please do not modify it.
The result of the debate was to Delete the image. Shyam (T/C) 11:03, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
That this image is replaceable was disputed by someone, but that person did not provide a reason for the dispute. In my estimation, this image is replaceable. Our fair use policy forbids using a non-free image if a free image could be created that could be used in its place. See criterion #1 and counter-example #8. In this case, it would be possible to create a free image; therefore this non-free image may not be used. Whether a free replacement image exists or not at this time is not relevant. – Quadell (talk) (random) 14:52, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, the replaceability of the image has been discussed on my user talk because of my actions with the article last night. I will copy over the convo here.—Řÿūłóñģ (竜龍) 19:38, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

- Actually, I've found this at WP:PORNSTARS Wikipedia:WikiProject Porn stars#Acceptable sources of fair use photos. I'm not sure as to how this applies.—Řÿūłóñģ (竜龍) 04:48, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

All of that is true except the part about there being "no free alternatives for a porn star". Porn stars, like other celebrities, make public appearances where they can be photographed. Please read WP:FU and note Counterexample #8: images being used to show what living people look like are not covered by Wikipedia's fair use policy. Therefore I am reverting your removal of the "replaceable" tag from Image:Pavel.jpg. —Angr 10:59, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- It is extremely difficult to find a free alternative for this person's image. Nearly every porn star's article has a fair use image on it. This one is no different.—Řÿūłóñģ (竜龍) 11:03, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- Nearly every celebrity's article (porn star or otherwise) needs to be cleared of fair-use images because they violate Wikipedia policy. This one is no different. —Angr 11:05, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- Then a free alternative should be found before we delete it.—Řÿūłóñģ (竜龍) 11:06, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- That would be great, but it isn't required. Fair use criterion #1 says "No free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information." The fact that no free equivalent has yet been found is irrelevant. The image already violates Wikipedia policy, even before a free equivalent has been found or created. —Angr 11:08, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- Would a DVD cover suffice, then? I'm sure I can find one somewhere.—Řÿūłóñģ (竜龍) 11:24, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- No, DVD covers are also copyrighted. The best way to get a free image of a celebrity is either (1) find out where they're next going to appear in public, find a Wikipedian who lives nearby, and get them to take a picture, or (2) write to the celeb's agency and ask them to release a publicity image under a free license (GFDL, CC-BY, CC-BY-SA). They should e-mail a copy their agreement to these terms to permissions@wikimedia.org. —Angr 11:29, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] That little revert
Sorry about that, wasn't paying attention and accidentally clicked the link. Reverted myself. Floria L 22:48, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
