[edit] Welcome to Wikipedia!

Dear Paul A. Newman: Welcome to Wikipedia, a free and open-content encyclopedia. I hope you enjoy contributing. To help get you settled in, I thought you might find the following pages useful:

Don't worry too much about being perfect. Very few of us are! Just in case you are not perfect, click here to see how you can avoid making common mistakes.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.

Wikipedians try to follow a strict policy of never biting new users. If you are unsure of how to do something, you are welcome to ask a more experienced user such as an administrator. One last bit of advice: please sign any discussion comment with four tildes (~~~~). The software will automatically convert this into your signature which can be altered in the "Preferences" tab at the top of the screen. I hope I have not overwhelmed you with information. If you need any help just let me know. Once again welcome to Wikipedia, and don't forget to tell us about yourself and be BOLD! Thanks! Glen 13:34, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] And apologies

I blocked you for about 30 seconds mistakingly under our username policy which states:

“
Names of well-known living or recently deceased people, such as Chuck Norris or Ken Lay, unless you are that living person. If you are, please note this on your user page.

”

However the celeb isnt Paul A Newman, so I apologise. You are good to go now :) Glen 13:34, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Signing posts

As a courtesy for other editors, it is a Wikipedia guideline to sign your talk page and user talk page posts. To do so simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments and your user name or IP address and the date will be automatically added along with a timestamp. Signing your comments helps people to find out who said something and provides them with a link to your user/talk page (for further discussion). For further info read Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines. Thank you. Gamaliel 18:51, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:0060930497.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:0060930497.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

[edit] Good edit, bad edit summary

For the PZ Myers article, you switched out a link in favor of a link to an interview. There is no problem with that in and of itself, but you decided to editorialize in your edit summary. To wit:

removered odd link to wacko fundie nutjob cartoon website

Edit summaries probably should remain as NPOV as the articles. Not only do such comments show bias, but they offer nothing positive to Wiki and could possibly instigate edit or flame wars. Thank you. Jinxmchue 21:10, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Edit Summary Request

I have noted that you edit without an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This is considered an important guideline in Wikipedia. Even a short summary is better than no summary. An edit summary is even more important if you delete any text; otherwise, people may think you're being sneaky or even vandalizing. Also, mentioning one change but not another one can be misleading to someone who finds the other one more important; add "and misc." to cover the other change(s).
