Paulsboro is a Borough in Gloucester County, New Jersey, United States. As of the United States 2000 Census, the borough population was 6,160.

Paulsboro is located at GR1.
(39.835563, -75.241819)According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 6.8 km² (2.6 mi²). 5.1 km² (2.0 mi²) of it is land and 1.7 km² (0.7 mi²) of it (25.19%) is water.
Paulsboro borders West Deptford Township, East Greenwich Township, Greenwich Township, and the Delaware River.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 6,160 people, 2,353 households, and 1,614 families residing in the borough. The population density was 1,213.5/km² (3,140.8/mi²). There were 2,628 housing units at an average density of 517.7/km² (1,339.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough was 63.56% White, 31.64% African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 1.31% from other races, and 2.82% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.35% of the population.
There were 2,353 households out of which 33.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.0% were married couples living together, 24.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.4% were non-families. 26.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.15.
In the borough the population was spread out with 28.8% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 13.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 88.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.7 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $35,569, and the median income for a family was $41,359. Males had a median income of $32,313 versus $24,779 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $16,368. About 14.6% of families and 17.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 27.0% of those under age 18 and 9.2% of those age 65 or over.

The Mayor of the Borough of Paulsboro is John J. Burzichelli, who is also the Chair of Economic & Neighborhood Development and represents the district in the General Assembly.

Paulsboro is in the First Congressional District and is part of New Jersey's 3rd Legislative District[2].
New Jersey's First Congressional District, covering portions of Burlington County, Camden County and Gloucester County, is represented by Rob Andrews (D, Haddon Heights). New Jersey is represented in the Senate by Frank Lautenberg (D, Cliffside Park) and Robert Menendez (D, Hoboken).
The 3rd legislative district of the New Jersey Legislature is represented in the State Senate by Stephen M. Sweeney (D, Thorofare) and in the Assembly by John J. Burzichelli (D, Thorofare) and Douglas H. Fisher (D, Thorofare). The Governor of New Jersey is Jon Corzine (D, Hoboken).
Gloucester County is governed by a seven-member Board of Chosen Freeholders. Gloucester County's Freeholders are: Stephen M. Sweeney (Freeholder Director), Robert M. Damminger (Deputy Freeholder Director), Joseph A. Brigandi, Jr., William Krebs, Frank J. DiMarco, Helene M. Reed and Dr. Warren S. Wallace.

The Paulsboro Public Schools serves students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. Schools in the district are Loudenslager Elementary School (K-2), Billingsport Elementary School (3-6) and Paulsboro High School [1] for grades 7-12.
Students in grades 9-12 from Greenwich Township attend Paulsboro High School as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Greenwich Township School District.
