Paulie Gatto

Paul "Paulie' Gatto is a fictional character appearing in Mario Puzo's novel The Godfather and one of the three films based on it. Paulie was portrayed by actor John Martino.

Paulie Gatto is a soldier in the Corleone Family, in Peter Clemenza's crew, and was the one responsible for the attempted killing of Don Corleone while he was buying fruit. He set up the killing, telling their enemies like Virgil Sollozzo where Don Corleone would be when it was a good time for the hit. The hit however did not work and Sonny Corleone saw Paulie responsible once a fish wrapped in Luca Brasi's vest was delivered to the compound. Paulie was later killed by being shot in the back of the head by fellow soldier Rocco Lampone in the famous, "Leave the gun, take the cannoli" scene.
