Paul Reid, born February 18, 1982 in Carlisle, is a professional English football player. Reid wears the number 4 shirt for Barnsley where he is currently the team's captain.
Reid started his career with Carlisle United making 22 appearances, he then moved to Rangers in 2000, before going on loan to Preston North End.In 2000 Reid represented England at Under 19 level and was capped against Holland. In January 2003, Paul then went on loan to Northampton Town, ironically making his debut against Barnsley at Oakwell. A permanent move for Paul was made when he signed the following summer. Having impressed the management and fans significantly during his time with the team, Reid was made captain during his last season with Northampton. He made 84 appearances scoring 3 goals as a Northampton player.
During Paul Hart's first summer as the Barnsley manager, he quickly snapped up Paul Reid to make him a Barnsley player. Reid spent most of his first season at Oakwell, flirting with the midfield and defence, he was one of the most impressive players during the 2004-2005 campaign. With Andy Ritchie now in charge of the Barnsley team, Reid was made captain at the beginning of the 2005-2006 season (only his second season at the club) which saw him go on to be one of the most successful captain's in Barnsley's recent history with them winning the League One Play Off Final at the Millenium Stadium - May 27th, 2006. Paul has currently made 84 appearances scoring 6 goals for Barnsley.
Reid signed a 2 year contract extension in the summer of 2006 to remain at Barnsley, despite interest from several English Championship clubs.
