Paul Martin (born March 5, 1981 in Minneapolis, Minnesota) is an ice hockey defenseman for the New Jersey Devils of the NHL. Martin played high school hockey at Elk River High School and was the Mr. Hockey award winner in 2000. He was drafted in the second round, 62nd overall by the New Jersey Devils. He has been playing for the Devils since the 2003-2004 season.
He has sound offensive instincts and a projectable frame. Was part of a winning program at the University of Minnesota, which adds to his pedigree. He helped his school win the 2002 and 2003 NCAA Division I National Championships.
He recently scored two fluke goals. One a missed pass from the far blue line went in off of Boston Bruin's goaltender Tim Thomas as he tried to sweep it away. (03/25/06) This is the furthest goal on a tended net. Another fluke goal against Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro was cleared along the glass and as DiPietro went behind the net to meet the puck, the puck deflected in off of a glass support.
