[edit] About Paul

When Paul Lambert sashayed into Emmerdale in September 2004, the residents didn’t know what had hit them.

The son of Diane Blackstock’s flighty sister Val Lambert, Paul was much more like his sharp-witted aunt than his deceitful mother. Growing up with Val was no picnic for poor Paul. Like Diane before him, Paul had been forced to parent his mother - despite being the child in the relationship.

One thing that didn’t bother Val though was Paul’s sexuality - until he ended up bedding one of her numerous boyfriends. The incident caused a rift between them that wasn’t healed for five years - until he came to Emmerdale.

Arriving with him in the village was Paul’s alter-ego Thelma Louise. Unlike Paul, Thelma Louise is a spiteful, caustic singer who croons about disappointment, loneliness and drink. And Paul had a lot of blues to sing when his mother sprung an almighty surprise on him during his aunt’s wedding service.

It transpired that his former uncle, Rodney Blackstock, was Paul’s biological father - much to the horror of both men. While Paul couldn’t believe the villages aging Lothario was his dad, Rodney was equally troubled by the prospect of having a drag queen for a son.

Over the next few moths, Paul and Rodney were at loggerheads, despite his new step-sister Nicola Blackstock’s attempts to get them to be friends. In the end it was the break-up of Paul’s relationship with his lover of nine years, Enzo, to forge a bond between them and now they are firm friends.

Having reconciled with Rodney, Paul forged another unlikely relationship. Meek post mistress Emily Kirk became Thelma Louise’s chauffeur and the friendship really brought her out of herself. When her marriage to vet Paddy Kirk broke up - thanks to his affair with her boss and friend Viv Windsor - Paul gave her support and love.

Love was the last thing Paul was looking for as he nursed his broken heart following Enzo’s departure. But when he caught the eye of local binman Ivan Jones, neither of them could control their feelings.

Both men struggled with the relationship as Ivan wanted to keep it a secret since no one in the village knew he was bisexual. After many ups and downs it looked like Paul and Ivan had finally found happiness – until Nicola stepped in.

Bored and frustrated in her own relationship with binman Simon Meredith, Nicola formed a crush on Ivan and started trying to lure him into her bed. When she found out that he was seeing Paul – after Thelma Louise accidentally announced it to the entire Woolpack – Nicola became hell bent on bagging Ivan to herself.

After he’d rejected her a few times, Nicola got blind drunk, threw on her sexiest underwear and gave it another go. To her delight, Lesley Meredith witnessed this and got the wrong idea – telling everyone that Ivan and Nicola had been having an affair.

Paul’s faith was shaken and he dropped Ivan. When the truth came out, he was mortified but he decided that the relationship was obviously doomed. When Ivan asked for another chance, Paul turned him down.

Single again, Paul retreated into the bosom of his family. He moved back in with his dad Rodney and struck up a close bond with Kelly Windsor, who was dating his father.

The duo were delighted when Rodney bought Holdgate Farm for them to transform into a spa. Their dream was crushed where the Spa was rejected by the Council. Instead of fighting Rodney turned his attention to buying Louise Appleton's half of the Woolpack, much to the annoyous of Kelly and Paul.
