From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Paul Goma (b. October 2, 1935, in Mana village, Orhei County - nowadays in the Republic of Moldova) is a Romanian writer.
A well known dissident (active, among others, in the creation of the SLOMR trade union), Paul Goma was imprisoned in Communist Romania and forced to leave as an exile. He published numerous works (fiction and non-fiction), translated worldwide, but his books were published in Romania only after the 1989 Revolution. He now lives in Paris and writes mainly about the Communist atrocities.
Some of his recent articles and essays are focused towards negating or downplaying the extent of the Holocaust in Romania. As of May 6, 2006 he revoked himself as a potential member of the Tismăneanu Commission. The commission is charged to research the crimes and horrors of Communism in Romania.
