Paul Dyson

Paul Dyson is a British man, born in 1974, who was jailed for life for the Valentine's Day murder of his fiancée, Joanne Nelson.

Miss Nelson was found in woods near Malton in North Yorkshire on March 24, 2005, after a five-week search involving hundreds of police officers and volunteers. The 22-year-old had been strangled. Dyson was, unusually, charged with murder before Miss Nelson's body was actually found.

Dyson had first reported Nelson missing from the home they shared at Hotham Road North in Hull on February 14, 2005.

After originally pleading guilty to her manslaughter Dyson changed his plea to being guilty of her murder during the trial at Hull Crown Court.

It emerged that Dyson launched the attack after a meaningless argument over cleaning at their home in Hull. He then strangled and killed her before driving 100 miles to hide her body.

The trial judge recommended that Dyson should spend at least 16 years in prison before being considered for parole. This recommendation is expected to keep him behind bars until at least 2021 and the age of 47.
