Patrick "Paddy" Richard McCarthy (born March 31, 1983 in Dublin) is an Irish professional footballer who currently plays for Leicester City and is the club captain. He wears the number 5 shirt.

He signed a 3 year deal at Leicester in March 2005, after City agreed a fee of £100,000 for the Irish defender with Manchester City. McCarthy had never played for Manchester City, at senior level but had enjoyed loan spells at Boston United (12 games) and Notts County (6 games) during 2002 and 2003.

Paddy has already become a favourite with the Leicester fans, due to his no-nonsense style of play, similar to what they had been used to from former legend, Steve Walsh, and in July 2006 was named club captain for the forthcoming 2006/2007 season.
