Patrick N. Lynch was the Catholic bishop of Charleston, South Carolina, during the American Civil War. he was appointed ambassador to the Vatican City by the Confederate States of America in 1864. He was the Third Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston which covers all of the state of South Carolina.
