Patrick II, Earl of Dunbar

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Patrick II († 1248), Earl of Dunbar and lord of Beanley, was a 13th century Anglo-Scottish noble. He was the eldest son of Patrick I, Earl of Dunbar and Ada, daughter of King William of Scotland. He probably succeeded to his father's titles some time before the latter's death on December 31, 1232, as his father was elderly and had been ill for some time. Patrick II was one of the leading figures during the minority of Alexander III of Scotland, although we do not know as much about his activities as those of his father and predecessor. He married Euphemia, daughter Walter Óg Stewart, 3rd High Steward of Scotland and lord of Kyle, Strathgryfe and Bute. He died in 1248 and was succeeded by his son Patrick III, Earl of Dunbar.
