Patrick Carney

Patrick Carney (b. April 1980) is the drummer for the Black Keys, a blues/rock band originating from Akron, Ohio. He also is the pioneer of the 9/5ths recording style. His uncle is Ralph Carney, sax player for Tom Waits.

Patrick's father, Jim, is a reporter for the Akron Beacon Journal.

Currently (December 2006) engaged to former Akron Beacon Journal reporter and current Cleveland Scene reporter and long time girlfriend, Denise Grollums.

His style in some songs is similar to John Bonham's with "Aeroplane Blues" being one example. Both Carney and Dan Auerbach, the lead singer and guitarist for The Black Keys, record with Nonesuch Records. The group's second album, Thickfreakness, was recorded in Patrick's old apartment basement.

Carney has a side project with his brother, entitled 10% Animal, where he plays guitar.

In late 2005, Carney and former Party of Helicopters guitarist Jamie Stillman started their own record label, Audio Eagle. As of Oct. 3, 2006, Audio Eagle has released albums by Gil Mantera's Party Dream, Houseguest and Beaten Awake.
