Patriarch Eugenius II of Constantinople

Eugenius was the Archbishop of Aghialos in Bulagaria before his election as Patriarch. He was among the Archbishops held as hostages by the Sultan along with Patriarch Gregory V when Greek Revolution broke up in 1821. In 10 April 1821 Patriarch Gregory V was deposed and hanged by the Turks and Archbishop Eugenius still a prisoner at the time was elected as the new Patriarch under the name Eugenius II.
