American icon, pat mAcdonald has released more than 5 albums of laureate proportion since the ‘95 split of the revolutionary Austin act Timbuk3. Living in Barcelona for the first half of the decade and being distributed throughout Europe on Ulf Tone, his artistry and provenance have been somewhat unattainable to the states until now. The new release “Troubadour Of Stomp” is a collection of songs written and recorded in the Northwest by Pat Kerns (Exploding Hearts, Nice Boys). A departure from previous records produced by John Parrish (PJ Harvey, Sparklehorse) “Troubadour Of Stomp” is a collection of modern masterpieces by a ground breaking songsmith at the magnitude level of Hank Williams Senior, Johnny Cash and John Lennon. Re-defining the concept of the “One-man-band” mAcdonald has developed a touring rig which amplifies the stomp of his left foot through a sub-woofer, guitar through both the sub and a Fender Twin, and vocals and harmonica through delays blending a sound somewhere between PJ Harvey and John Lee Hooker. His live performance somewhat puzzling when first witnessed, the sound of a band coming from one man, mAcdonald has reached a maximized state of efficiency and output as a performer. Independent of the band format still, like his 1987 appearance on SNL with a boom box as his rhythm section, mAcdonald continues as a pioneer after 30 years in the industry. -The Black Apple -Copyright 2006
