Patrick Farenga is president of Holt Associates and was the publisher of Growing Without Schooling magazine from 1985 until the magazine folded in 2001. Farenga was a disciple of John Caldwell Holt, an early advocate of homeschooling, and he helped Holt put out Growing Without Schooling until Holt's death in 1985. After Holt's death, Farenga managed Holt Associates and Growing Without Schooling until the magazine folded for lack of funding. He was instrumental in the daily operation of the magazine, a publication around which the homeschooling community gathered. As a result of his role as publisher of GWS, Farenga became a popular speaker at home education conferences around the world.

Since the discontinuation of GWS, Farenga's role in the homeschooling community has lessened. He still speaks at homeschooling conferences, although his fame has declined in the absence of GWS.
