Five Pillars of Wikipedia
Float around for awhile until you find something that tickles your fancy. One easy way to do this is to hit the random page button in the navigation bar to the left. There are also many great committees and groups that focus on particular jobs. My personal favorite stomping grounds are Wikipedia:Translation into English and Wikipedia:Cleanup for sloppy articles. Finally, the Wikimedia Foundation has several other wiki projects that you might enjoy.
There are a few crucial points to keep in mind when editing. Be civil with users, strive to maintain a neutral point of view, verify your information, and show good etiquette like signing your comments with four tildes like this: ~~~~ If you have any more questions, always feel free to ask me anything on my talk page or ask the true experts at Wikipedia:Help desk. Again, welcome! -- Draeco 21:02, 23 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Bogota's Photos
Hi Pasca. Please check the pictures you include in the Colombian articles. If the pictures have not been taken by yourself or do not have a free license then an administrator will remove them in less than one month. For this reason is better to put an effort in obtaining original photos.--tequendamia 07:02, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
- Hi Tequendamia, yes I've taken the pictures myself ... so I suppose I own the proper rights. Kidding .. I guess I didn't asign the proper license to the picture! --- Pascaweb ---
[edit] Corficolombiana
I stumbled across the article, which was only a stub...I'd heard it mentioned on the news a few years ago, so I decided to expand it. All the research I found was in Spanish (two news articles, and the websites for the two merged companies), so I translated (I hope properly, although I'm relatively confident that I did) it into English.
Did I miss something in the article, does it need improvement? What do you think of it over-all? Gracias, y perdona me, por favor, de no escribir esto in español, pero no escribo en lo a menudo (pero leo Español cada dia -- El Mundo y El Periódico) •Jim62sch• 21:12, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
- Your spanish is very good and the information is reliable ... I just wondered why a stranger would like to write on this subject. Maybe as a newcomer myself was a surprise to see the enhanced article. --- Pascaweb ---
[edit] Consulta: Wikimedia Colombia
Me cuenta pues,

[edit] Come on
Please don't call other editors names. As I've already said on Talk:McRepublic, if you want me to, I'll undelete and take it to Afd so we get more opinions. Is that what you want? What I will not do is take your bait and get into a cultural/political fight - that's not what Wikipedia is for. Friday (talk) 18:28, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- OK, I agree with that and I apologize for calling you that, it's just I had a bad day yesterday and it's kind of frustrating seeing what you think is important to expose is deleted. Besides, it's the first time that happens to me in Wikipedia. I really let to you the option to undelete it or not. By the way I eliminated the reference to United States in the final draft because the use of this word it is not limited to it. In the future I'll take care of include some references or examples. Thanks for your time .... Pascaweb

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:ASERNA.JPG)
This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:ASERNA.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Kevin 10:50, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
I have removed this image from the Andrea Serna article because it contained no content about the magazine, and therefore does not qualify as fair use. Kevin 12:55, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- Would you clarify your fair use rationale for this image? I see that you have replaced it in the article, without updating the fair use rationale on the image page. Kevin 10:11, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

- Can Wikipedia use it if they published the cover in a public newspaper website? --- User:Pascaweb
- The publisher doesn't give up their copyright by publishing to a public website. The only way to use the image is if the article has some content about either the cover image itself, or about the article within. Using it for illustration or decoration is not considered fair use (at least not by Wikipedia). If you have lots of spare time you could read through WP:FU, but it can be confusing st times. The best solution might be to try and obtain a free use image from her publicist/agent. Thanks for your reply. Kevin 22:01, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:PuertoBoyacaStreet.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:PuertoBoyacaStreet.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 23:06, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:PBAerealView.JPG
Thanks for uploading Image:PBAerealView.JPG. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 00:07, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Trivia you added
Santa Cruz de la Sierra says "There are many Japanese-made taxi cabs modified for left-hand driving." I don't even understand what this means. Could you explain more, or better yet, cite a source? --Descendall 02:35, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Suerte....

[edit] San Alejo, band
Please read WP:MUSIC to see the criteria needed for musical articles. Then review WP:CSD A7 to see the criteria used to delete the above entry. Please do not recreate it in the same form as before, if it meets WP:MUSIC, then the article needs to describe that specifically in an encyclopedic manner. - CHAIRBOY (☎) 16:12, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Minor edits
Hi Pascaweb. Thanks for your contributions. I noticed that in this recent edit you marked the edit as "minor". According to the guidelines as I understand them, a minor edit affects only formatting, punctuation, typo reduction or spelling correction. Since this edit added content, it would not be considered minor. I think your change is a fine addition, but isn't "minor."
Perhaps you might consider changing your default preferences under "editing": Mark all edits minor by default. Thanks for the good work. — EncMstr 17:05, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Colombian National Coffee Park
You uploaded some photos to this article that acording to your Image subpage was taken by you. However you tagged the image as only beeing allowed for non-commercial use. This is however not a license that can be used on Wikipedia since it is not a free content license. These images will soon be deleted unless you agree to use a different license, see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for a list of suitable licenses to pick from. It's up to you nautraly, just know that if you won't allow commercial use of your contributions they can't be used on Wikipedia. --Sherool (talk) 08:24, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Copyrights unclear, please help
Hi, you have uploaded Image:Manizales view.jpg and a colleague have copied it to Bulgarian Wikipedia. However there are issues with the copyright of the picture which need to be cleaned up: you have specified that the image is copyrigthed but have not specified who is the copyright onwer. Regardless whether it is you or someone else, it has to be indicated on the page. At least this is how I understand the copyright but other people (incl. you) might disagree with me. Greetings, Goldie (tell me) 19:21, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- Well I took the image from a Manizales fan page whose content is free, but I don't know the owner name. I think this is fair use but maybe I´m wrong. Good day (or night?) there in Bulgaria ... by the way, it is dificult to learn Bulgarian from Spanish or English? Pascaweb 2006-11-10 16:22 PM
- To be honest - I don't know. I've seen a sentence once: "Why they say it so hard to learn English, I've learned it a t the age of 2." ;) Typically a native speaker is a good source for other type of information. The phonetics might be a problem in part but ought to be a not so big problem. The grammar is rather relaxed and is having some similarities with English (I know nothing about Spanish). In the so called Institute for Foreign Students people can do it in about a year to a level good enough to study at the university, including Spanish-speakers.
- And yes, it was night when you wrote the answer - Bulgaria is UTC+2, so we have 7 hours difference. BTW: I've just looked at the city's page and was astonished to see that the city's flag is just the same as the Bulgarian national flag (the green colour on our flag is actually lighter)! -- Goldie (tell me) 16:21, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

- Thanks for the comments on your language I really like to learn about other cultures. How do you say hello and goodbye in Hungarian? ... anytime you want to learn about Spanish or about Colombia just call me ... Have a good day goldie Pascaweb 2006-11-21 11:37 AM (UTC -5)
- Let me correct you - Bulgaria and Hungaria are not even having a common border ;-)) Instead of repeating what is how in Bulgarian, I can direct you to an incomplete article, started by me a long long time ago, at the beginning of my wikicareer. If something is missing there I may update it.
- I've found the picture on a governmental site, does this make it public domain or the copyright is still held by the author.
- As per Colombian information, I would be grateful if you can point me to anything nice about your country (in English). The negative campaign led by U.S. towards you is way too strong. -- Goldie (tell me) 17:00, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

- Sorry for the mistake ... maybe due to the lack of info and good news we have here in Colombia about Bulgaria (or even from Sofia) and the other balkan countries. About Colombia I can tell you it is not just a Caribbean country, it's more than that. it's more that just coffee or drugs .. more than that. It's really a nice place to live in (BTW, if it means something to anyone our people is in 2nd place in the list of happiest people). Some say that the most beautiful thing of Colombia is the people. But you have to come and see it for yourself. Regarding the picture, I think is fair to use it since the city is trying to publicit its region. Furthermore is for educative purposes.
