Encyclopedia of Stupid is a wiki that concerns itself mainly with spreading disinformation about popular culture in order to generate laughs. This disinformation is often colloquially understood by readers predisposed to recognize it as being just close enough to the truth to have an undeniable ring of believability. This, of course, serves to increase the humor factor. The writers of the wiki, the majority of which come from the popular Something Awful Forums, have developed a caustic style of writing that is frequently insulting, flippant and purposely outrageous. The wiki refers to itself as EOS and maintains that it was started in 1984.

The subject matter on EOS predictably mirrors those subjects that are popular among Something Awful users, which range from the mundane to the profound. Special attention seems to be given to topics of philosophical and religious nature, as well as political and scientific subject matter. The wiki allows edits only by registered users and rather strictly polices its users, asking them to use the wiki in a manner consistent with a written set of guidleines. The one exception to this are the User:Talk pages on the wiki, which are a free-for-all that have taken on an aspect of Something Awful's FYAD.
