[edit] Synopsis

In this film, Amitabh Bachchan plays a role similar to the one enacted by Shah Rukh Khan much later in Darr. Amitabh plays Kumar Sen, an artist. He is in love with Asha (Yogeeta Bali). However, she wins a trip to Ooty in a dance competition, and falls in love with the wealthy tea plantation owner, Rajesh (Navin Nischol). When Kumar finds out, he goes to Asha's uncle, Ashok Verma (Om Prakash), and demands Asha's hand in marriage. When Ashok fails to do so, Kumar kills Ashok, and sets up Rajesh in court for a case. Yogeeta promises Kumar to love him and stay with him forever, if he can release Rajesh from his death sentence. Amitabh writes down his confession, and in the end, gives it to Rajesh, and shoots himself.

It is a suspense thriller, Kumar books himself in a train from Bombay to Calcutta and establishes enough evidences to prove that he was travelling in train throughout journey. The twist in plot is revealed at climax. Kumar boards a train from bombay's first station and tells TC that he will sleep in his coupe and should not be disturbed till calcutta. Then he gets down in bombay's second station and come back home to kill Ashok Verma. Then he takes flight to Nagpur which is midway Bombay-Calcutta. He re-enter his coupe in Nagpur and get down at calcutta. Wow!

This is the first movie in which Amitabh Bachchan played a villainious role.
