Parry Aftab

Parry Aftab, Esq. was one of the first lawyers to practice Internet law, when she began practicing in the field shortly after the Web was launched. She is the Executive Director of WiredSafety.org, the largest online safety and educational program.

Her areas of expertise are Children Online, Worldwide Cybercrime Protection and Prevention, Privacy, Data Collection and Security, Workplace Risk Management and Security, Consumer Protection, Advertising and the Internet, E-Commerce, Cyberstalking and Harassment, Child Exploitation and Child Pornography.

She is The Privacy Lawyer columnist for Information Week Magazine.

She consults for and works with law enforcement agencies, worldwide, on cybercrime prevention, cyber-terrorism, law enforcement and security matters. She has worked with FBI, U.S. Customs, Interpol, Scotland Yard, the Home Office, Tokyo Metropolitan Police and Japan's National Police, Hong Kong Police and the RCMP.

She is often invited to testify before Congressional and Senate hearings and is frequently consulted by U.S and international governmental regulatory authorities on children's matters and overall Internet policy issues, privacy, security and law.

Parry is a regular source to major media outlets worldwide on Internet privacy, marketing, advertising and regulatory issues, as well as children and online safety and security. She has been quoted or featured in most leading magazines, including Newsweek, U.S News & World Report, Family Circle, Good Housekeeping, Reader's Digest, Better Homes and Gardens, Information Weekly, Teen People, Ladies Home Journal, Smart Business Magazine, The London Times Magazine, New York Magazine, Playboy and Cosmopolitan Magazine.

She is also frequently consulted by leading news publications and appears often as a commentator on international, national and local television news programs.

She has been providing public service safety information for many years. Parry provides parent Internet education and online safety content for such diverse sites as Children's Television Workshop, Disney, Microsoft, Oracle, Verizon, AT&T and MSNBC and many of the social networking sites.

Her online discussions and writing are often published and quoted by legal journals and even judges in their decisions.

Aftab has contributed to the books Child Abuse on the Internet.... Ending the Silence (2001, editor Carlos A. Arnaldo), The Technical Response: Blocking, Filtering And Rating The Internet, The Best In E-Commerce Law (2001, Warren E.Agin), and was the editor of Children's Online Privacy Law.

Her writings have been published in Information Week, New York Law Journal, Legal Times, Preventive Law Reporter, Working Women Magazine, The Texas Lawyer, Children's Legal Rights Law Journal, New Jersey Law Journal, and The Internet Lawyer.

Parry Aftab was involved in the controversy surrounding Katie.com between 2000 and 2004, during which she was criticized for being overly aggressive towards Katie Jones. As of 2005, she is currently working with MySpace in trying to fight cyberstalking.
