Parnell Square, Dublin

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Parnell Square (CearnĂ³g Parnell in Irish, formerly Ruthland Square) lies just off the north end of O'Connell Street in the city of Dublin, Republic of Ireland. Surrounded on three sides by Georgian houses, most of the centre is taken up by the Rotunda Hospital, with the Garden of Remembrance on the northern side.

The Hugh Lane Gallery is on the north side of the square, as is the Dublin Writers Museum.

Traffic must travel in a clockwise direction around the square.

John Wesley Ryles wrote a song called Parnell Square which is a lament from a lovelorn cabdriver who drives the streets near the square. It was performed by the Irish-music band Darby O'Gill on their album Waitin' For A Ride.
